Day 9 was a very windy, rainy day and we were unable to walk to Souris, our destination. Luckily Barbara at 45 Steps Inn is one of the nicest people on the planet and she offered us a ride to Saint Peters Bay where you can catch a bus to Souris. We waited for a few hours at 45 Steps Inn, playing Michaud Toys board games while the rain poured down. We we have some Michaud games at home and were surprised to see them in PEI given they are made in southern Ontario. We played Dice Poker and Sequence and Barbara graciously offered us tea and local beer. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and definitely beat walking 20km in the rain!

Barbara dropped us off in Saint Peters Bay and we went to Julio’s Oyster Express. We had tried going here on previous visits to Saint Peters Bay but it was always very busy and it is easy to understand why. Julio possesses a wealth of information about PEI oysters and has a very entertaining way of explaining the history of oyster farming in the region. Of course the oysters were fresh and delicious and it was eye-opening to have a guided tasting of seven varieties from different parts of the island.

After a great time eating and learning about oysters we went to the Black and White Cafe for a glass of wine and a cookie. The server at B&W gave us tips on where to catch the bus to Souris and we boarded the bus right on schedule. It was about a 20 minute bus ride to Souris and when we arrived the rain was coming down fairly hard. Luckily our accommodations were nearby and we quickly and easily checked in. We stayed at Shanty Stay and absolutely loved it. The room was cute and comfortable and more spacious than we would have thought.

The next order of business was finding food and drink to take back to our room. We picked up beer at PEI Liquor, dinner at Souris Thai Food, and a bag of Covered Bridge “The Weekender” chips. We brought everything back and settled in to watch the Blue Jays game on the tablet.
Overall a pretty good day in spite of the inclement weather. No map or step count for this day since there was no walking, unless you count walking to the liquor store!
