Wine & Walking Day 8: Stoney Creek to Burlington

As predicted, the day started out rainy as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl reached the Toronto area. We decided we would take an Uber to Barangas for lunch (instead of walking as planned) and see what the weather was like after, as it appeared it might clear for a window that would allow us to reach Burlington.

After a very tasty and very big lunch we trusted that the weather forecast would be accurate and, although it was a bit rainy and windy, started out on our way.

Soon, it did in fact clear and it turned out to be a very nice day for a walk along the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

On this day we spotted some very rare birds on the waterfront 😀

When we arrived at our destination, The Pearle Hotel on Burlington’s waterfront, we decided we wouldn’t try to find a bar to watch the Netherlands England Euro Cup match, but rather just watch from the comfort of our very nice hotel room, with a lake view!

After a disappointing result for the Netherlands soccer team, we picked ourselves up and went to the hotel restaurant/bar, Isabelle, for a pre-dinner drink. Next it was time for dinner at Di Mario’s, an Italian restaurant just minutes from the hotel. We had soups, calamari, risotto, lasagna and dessert, and everything was delicious. We would definitely return to this restaurant to try some of their other amazing-sounding dishes. The dessert we had was called “The Orange”, and they weren’t kidding.

Not only was it beautiful, but it was absolutely delicious. I tried to take a dramatic video of Jon breaking the orange open, unfortunately he beat me to the first crack, but you get the idea nonetheless.

All in all a great day despite the rain. And while we were happy we weren’t completely rained out, we were a bit sad that the next day would be the last of the trip.
