Day 14 – Annandale to Georgetown

Getting from Annandale to Georgetown would require us to walk to Dundas to catch a bus to Cardigan, where we would then continue walking to our destination in Georgetown. The bus to Cardigan picks up in Dundas at a gas station at 10am, so it was again an early start. As we passed our host Greg’s home on our way out, he helpfully told us we were going the wrong way! and we took his suggestion and headed down a “road” that saved us a bit of time on our way to the bus stop.

Guests of the Annandale Lighthouse are invited to leave a message on the walls. We took the opportunity to promote this blog!

The bus arrived on time and once in Cardigan we had a walk around. We had reservations at Clam Diggers restaurant at 11:30 so while we waited we bought some wine and beer at PEI liquor and took in the sights in downtown Cardigan.

When it was time for our reservation we walked over to Clamdiggers and sat down for another great seafood-heavy meal. We had soft-shelled clams and the Beach House Platter of breaded clams, haddock and scallops. Not pictured was a delicious (and huge!) summer salad.

After lunch we were again on our way to Georgetown via the Confederation Trail. We encountered this sign on the trail where taking one route will get you to Georgetown, the other to Montague where we would be going on Day 16 for some craft beers at Copper Bottom Brewing and Bogside Brewing. The predominantly-blue sign with the right-pointing arrow marks the Island Walk. We have seen these many times on our travels (no surprise) but hadn’t taken any photos so… here you go!

The remaining walk to Georgetown was admittedly not easy for me as it was hot and there were quite a few mosquitoes. We were also ahead of schedule for arriving at our next Airbnb so I used all of these excuses to convince Jon to go to a golf course for a beer.

After the beer we carried on toward Georgetown and arrived at our Airbnb. It’s a converted barn and is absolutely adorable. We would highly recommend this place if you are looking for unique spaces while travelling PEI. It is right across the street from an excellent restaurant, The Wheelhouse, where we had dinner reservations for both of our nights in Georgetown. On our first visit to The Wheelhouse we ordered a dozen oysters, a seafood wedge salad, and a scallop and lobster risotto. Everything was delicious and we started planning our meal selections for dinner the following evening!

We enjoyed a blueberry tart for dessert and then went back to our Airbnb to watch some TV, and have a glass of haskap-berry mead.
