Day 16 – Georgetown to Montague to Charlottetown

Day 16 was a special day as it was Jon’s birthday! It also marked the last day of our travels around the island, as we would be heading to our final destination of Charlottetown to spend a few days. Our original plan was to walk to Montague and then take the bus to Charlottetown but when we found out there was also a bus from Georgetown to Montague we decided that the extra sleep and time at the breweries in Montague were too tempting to pass up.

The bus ride to Montague was quick and we arrived just before Copper Bottom Brewing opened so we used the time to walk around town. In addition to the natural beauty of most towns in PEI, Montague has lots of public art, a few samples of which can be found in the gallery below.

Next was Copper Bottom Brewing, one of two breweries in Montague we would be visiting. As we approached, we couldn’t help but be impressed by the building and treehouse patio overlooking the river.

While at Copper Bottom we shared a grilled cheese sandwich. Jon tried the Flora pilsner and I had the Juno IPA. Everything was delicious and a great way to start Jon’s birthday celebrations!

Next it was on to Bogside Brewing. Bogside has lots of food options and a huge patio where we settled in for lunch.

We ordered our beers; a Lighthorse lagered ale for Jon and a pineapple sour for me, as well as two pizzas from Famous Peppers. We devoured the pizza and enjoyed our beers in the backyard, which was very busy for a Wednesday afternoon!

Before we knew it, it was time to catch our bus to Charlottetown. The ride was quite long but it was entertaining, as the bus driver was interested in our walking tour of the Island and had a lot of questions and suggestions for us. He suggested Sea Rocket and we were happy to know that it came highly recommended, as we had a reservation there for Jon’s birthday that night!

Once in Charlottetown I had a nap and then we were off to Sea Rocket. Looking at the photo gallery I can see we went a little overboard with the food, but it was so good we couldn’t stop eating! We had fresh and cooked oysters, the Rocket Charcuterie, lobster thermidor and a beet salad. We also had a creme brulee for dessert. A great start to our Charlottetown stay!

A great day for food and drink, but a less great day for walking, although we somehow still managed to get 9km of walking in despite not travelling between places on foot.
