Wine & Walking Day 7: Grimsby to Stoney Creek

This day did not start well for me. I somehow wasn’t aware that the trailhead we were in search of was on something called “Grimsby Mountain” so as we started up the steep road, I was unprepared for how long and high it was. As much as inclines in the woods are sometimes difficult, they don’t compare to road inclines somehow. I had to stop a few times for water and was cursing our decision to walk to the trailhead instead of getting a ride (a common theme!)

Once we got to the trail, it was pretty much smooth sailing with the exception of all the insects. Once again they weren’t biting because we were wearing insect repellent, but they were pretty much non-stop buzzing around my eyes, nose and mouth, and it wasn’t my favourite. The trail was stunning though, and due to the elevation, there were some pretty spectacular views, so there was definitely a positive side to the suffering 😀

We came off the trail and headed to Ridge Road Winery which was a cute place that was remarkably busy for a Monday afternoon.

We had a tasting and then it started to rain so I requested we bail on the rest of the hiking for the day. We took an Uber to our hotel in Stoney Creek and soon after we checked in the rain stopped. We were meeting up with friends in the area later in the evening so while we didn’t get to hike quite as much as we would have liked, the day was a win for many reasons. Plus, we already now have plans in the works to return to the Hamilton area to not only complete the part of the hike we missed on this trip, but add some additional sections as well!
