Wine & Walking Day 9: Burlington to Oakville

Day 9 we woke up to the realization that this would be our final day of hiking. I think this may have been our best weather day, as it wasn’t too hot but the sun was shining and there was a nice breeze. This was all appreciated since our hike would not be shaded by tree cover like some previous hikes.

We had a small breakfast and downed lots of coffee before heading out, again on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. We made our way through the streets of Burlington which were familiar to Jon thanks to his growing up there.

At one point we spotted a bird that wasn’t making any sound so we used the Merlin Photo ID feature to identify it.

Eventually we ended up in Oakville and had lunch at Plank Restobar. We were again extremely sweaty upon arrival and our waiter, like others before, quickly came with cold water. We ordered a few sharing dishes, all of which were tasty, got our water bottles re-filled, and set out again for the remainder of our walk.

Once in Oakville we watched the end of the Blue Jays game (a rare win!) and then went out for our dinner reservation at Hexagon. We were seated at a very nice table right by the front window, and proceeded to let the team at Hexagon do their thing, as we ordered the tasting menu and wine pairings. This meal was next level, as was the service. The thoughtful beverage pairings (not all wine!) and explanations for the choices were a particular standout. I only took a photo of the first course and “snacks” but each and every dish was as beautiful as it was tasty.

The meal was the perfect way to end our adventure and is one we won’t soon forget!
